How Should Supports Work?

Supports should advance a person’s independence and inclusion in community instead of isolating them.  Integrated supports work collectively and evolve as a person moves through their stages of life.  This graphic explains types of support and is a publication of the Missouri Family to Family Resource Center.

Charting the Life Course

CORE BELIEF:

People with disabilities and their families have the right to live, love, work, play and pursue their life aspirations just as others do in the community.

We are supporting families when:

  • Individuals have self-determination, interdependence, productivity, integration and inclusion in all facets of community life
  • Families can maximize their capacity, strengths and unique abilities to best nurture, love and support the individual to achieve their goal.
